A Systematic Review and Meta-Analysis Evaluating the Surgical Outcomes of Progressive Tension Suturing Compared to Drains in Abdominoplasty Surgery
Summary: This meta-analysis sought to compare the postoperative outcomes of progressive tension suturing (PTS) to closed suction drains in abdominoplasty. According to the 24 studies collated in this meta-analysis, combining the use of PTS with liposuction reduced seroma risk and reoperation rates, and also reduced the occurrence of hematomas, infections, and wound dehiscence as compared to the use of drains. The study illustrates the positive outcomes of PTS in abdominoplasty compared to the use of drains, however, this study also highlights the need for larger, high‑quality studies to confirm these findings.
